The author spent a total of seven
years at university in the UK, gaining a Degree in Geology from Hull
University, an M.Sc. in Micropalaeontology from the University of Wales,
Aberystwyth and a Ph.D. in Albian Stratigraphy from the University of
Plymouth.
On leaving the academic world he
spent seven years working in the oil industry in Singapore interpreting
regional stratigraphy and oilfield geology throughout S.E. Asia, Papua
New Guinea and Australia.
Return to the UK involved five years
working as a geological consultant to the builders of the Channel Tunnel,
and following this, two years co-ordinating, editing and writing (in
part) the book entitled 'Engineering Geology of the Channel Tunnel.'
This was followed by three years
working for Taylor Woodrow as an Expert Witness involving a major contractual
dispute over a 5km tunnel in Chalk; followed by two years working for
Southern Water.
Currently the author has just completed
a major contract abroad as a Senior Tunnel Engineer for Knight Piesold.
This involved a 30km hydroelectric project in a thrusted volcanic complex.
